The Secret to Success Lies in Belief

The strongest factor for success is belief. Belief in yourself, that you can do it, that you deserve it, and believing you're going to achieve it.

In psychology, we call this phenomena the Self-fulfilling Prophecy. It's described as a prediction that causes itself to become true. A perfect example of this is the Placebo Effect. You believe that something is going to make you feel better and so it does.

It's that simple.

There are 2 types of Self-Fulfilling Prophecies, but we're going to talk about the Self-Imposed Prophecy. This is where you have a belief about yourself, & this belief impacts your actions. Your actions have consequences that, usually, go back & support your initial belief. This creates a cycle, which then produces results.

For example, if I believe that I'm going to become a manager, then I'm going to act in a way that aligns with this belief. I might take classes on how to be a good supervisor or read books on the topic. I might take on extra tasks at work to demonstrate my leadership abilities & commitment to my job. I might vocalize my intentions of being promoted to my boss & have a conversation with them on what I need to do to get the position. And finally, when the opportunity arises, I'm going to apply.

The result of all these actions amounts to a very high likelihood that I'll get the promotion. Why? Because I worked hard for it & proved I was the right person for the job.

But it all started with a belief. A belief in myself. A belief that I could do it. A belief that I deserved the promotion. And a belief that I could achieve it.

My belief created a powerful emotional experience. I felt driven, motivated, excited, enthused. And those emotions drove my behavior, leading me to work hard, to pursue my goals, & leave nothing to chance. And the result was the pay-off, getting the job, & being successful.

This is the secret to success. It all starts with truly believing in yourself, & believing so much, that you go out there and get it! You fulfill your own prophecy & create your own reality.

So begin believing. Dig into yourself & do that inner work, because you CAN do this. You CAN achieve it. The first step is to simply BELIEVE.
